Australia Day is fast approaching, but there’s still time to make plans to ensure Australia Day 2018 is the best year yet for the whole family.
Pack up a Picnic
Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to head to one of the city’s beauty spots and enjoy some food and chilling out time with family and friends.
There are many great spots for an Australia Day picnic in Perth. You can choose a central location where you can stay into the evening to watch the fireworks, or a more secluded spot where you can combine your picnic with a family hike. Some popular spots for picnics include:
- Kings Park
- Cottesloe Beach
- Serpentine Falls
- Bayview Park
- Matilda Bay
- John Forrest National Park
Remember, it’s a day to celebrate everything about being Australian so it’s always fun to include some iconic Aussie food in your picnic basket like lamingtons, vegemite scrolls, sausage rolls, and meat pies.
Feel like it’s not Australia Day without a barbie? Pick up a few disposable BBQ grills and pack your cooler bag with prepared kebabs, prawns, snags, and burgers, ready to cook once you reach your picnic spot. Many public parks in Perth also offer free use of barbecue facilities.
For a lazier approach, there are plenty of public BBQs organised for the day in various locations.
Release Your Playful Side with Some Outdoor Games
Whether you’re chilling out by the pool at home or you’re headed to the beach for a picnic or BBQ, active games are a great way to keep the kids occupied and the whole family can join in the fun.
Some fun and easy game ideas to try out:
- Beach Frisbee
- Water balloon fight
- Backyard cricket
Thong toss – see who can throw theirs the furthest or create a floating target in the swimming pool
Upgrade Your Pool Party with a Slip’n’Slide
If you ever made a slip’n’slide as a kid, you’ll know just how much fun can be had with some plastic sheeting, a hose, and a liberal squirt of some dishwashing liquid.
This DIY version will still please the kids but if you’ve got the space, why not step it up a notch and let the adults in on the fun by hiring an inflatable water slide from Monsterball? Choose from a simple slide, inflatable slip’n’slide, or a wet and dry obstacle course with tunnels, climbing walls, and pop up logs.
Water slides make a great addition to a pool party or are a fun alternative if you have a big backyard but don’t have a pool.
Go All Out with a Party Package
Want to make sure your Australia Day party is remembered by everyone for years to come? Book a party package from Monsterball with a choice of inflatable water slides, dunk tanks, obstacle courses, bouncy castles, boxing rings and sumo suits, and other inflatables.
Ideal for an outdoor party at a park, or a private property with plenty of outdoor space, the packages include inflatables hire, set up, and optional operators and supervision.
Sit Back and Enjoy the Skyworks
You won’t want to miss the biggest fireworks display of the year. Make sure you get down to the Swan River in the evening to see the night out with a bang.
If you’re at Langley Park, come and say hello and join in the Monsterball fun! We’ll have a range of our inflatable amusements and rides set up there to help celebrate Australia Day. We’d love to see you.
The most popular places to watch the Skyworks are from Langley Park, Kings Park and the South Perth foreshore. These spots can get crowded so make sure to head down early to get a good viewing spot. The show starts at 8pm.
Be Prepared
While Australia Day is one of the most fun times of the year, it’s also a peak time for accidents, injuries, and heat stroke. If you’re planning a barbie at home, take the time to do a little preparation to make sure everything goes smoothly:
Make sure there are enough tables and seating for everyone, with plenty of shade.
Mow the lawn well before your party and make sure there are no dog toys or other hazards lying around.
Ensure you’ve prepared enough food, beverages, and water for everyone. Small children can become overheated quickly when running around outside so remind them to drink water regularly.
Have plenty of sunscreen on hand and spare towels if guests will be swimming or playing in water. No matter what activities you plan, have an amazing Australia Day 2018!
